Improved configurations of the camera traps were designed in WiSE project as new technologies were adopted. The units have PIR and radar as motion sensors. Also from Generation 1C onwards there is provision for on-board image processing. For more details please refer to the technology page.

A commercial camera trap unit has a passive infrared (PIR) sensor for motion detection.


Generation 1A: Initial prototype model based on Arduino and using a serial camera.


Generation 1B: A refined version of 1A with a custom-designed board and a serial camera.


Generation 1C: Battery operated version based on Raspberry Pi (Linux computer) and a 5M pixel resoultion camera.


Generation 1D: Power over Ethernet (PoE) operated version based on Raspberry Pi (Linux computer) and a 5M pixel resoultion camera.


WiSE 2: Solar powered digital platform with IP camera, satellite Internet, solar panels and wirless sensor network.


Pole mounted sensors for determining the best height/tilt of sensors for detection.
