Good advice when preparing for the upcoming IETF meeting in Vienna

The IETF meeting is coming up fairly soon in Vienna, and I hope that
many people on this mailing list are planning to attend the BOF
meeting on "IP over MPEG-2/DVB Transport". Thismeeting aims to look
at IP service provision over MPEG-2. Despite the word "DVB" in the
BOF title, I would especially encourage input and comments from
those using MPEG-2 beyond DVB, such as ATSC, DAB, etc. It may be the
first time for some of you to attend an IETF. Here are some tips
which may improve your experience, courtesy of Paul Hoffman:

- Newcomers can learn a lot ahead of time by reading the Tao of the
IETF [1]. The newcomer orientation on Sunday (this year, at 1PM) is
useful, but it is even more useful if they have read the Tao first.

- It is a good idea to at least skim the WG archives [2] for the past
four months before the meeting to help prevent rehashing items that
have already been decided and to help focus on items that need more
  review.

- Similarly, it is a good idea to re-read the WG's charter [3] before
  the meeting.

- Many IETF areas have area-wide meetings. People who are interested
in more than just one WG can get a feel for what is happening in
other areas by going to these meetings. The transport area has one
  of these meetings, tsvwg.

- The "Note Well" notice [4] is serious. It will also be given on
  paper in the registration packets.
