The Skynet 4 satellite, launched by Arianne, will be used to provide the
UK armed services with an integrated digital communications network. Parts
of this network will use frequency-hopped spread spectrum techniques to
combat sophisticated electronic jammers. The project has investigated the
performance of using the satellite network to transfer X.25 packet data.
As a part of the project, an experimental network was connected over a satellite
link and performance data was collected.
