Research:

Rural and remote locations in UK need an economic delivery method for fast broadband. Comparing with the other solutions, satellite technology offers better provisions for this purpose. At the same time, it requires special consideration in the implementation of the general TCP/IP stack for application performance improvement. Due to cross-layer interactions in the stack, satellite bandwidth management methods play an important role in application performance. Moreover, the new trends in web delivery bring interesting aspects of satellite compatibility. While research in the "new-web" is beneficial for the greater internet community, research on satellite integration to these technologies is worthy for satellite broadband. Primary research goals contain study of:

Funding: This research is linked to a project "Satellite Internet for Rural Access (SIRA)" which is being funded by EPSRC through the dot.rural Digital Economy hub.
